本セミナーでは、日本の嚥下障害医療の黎明期から臨床・研究・教育に携わってこられた、当院の名誉院長ならびに昭和医科大学名誉教授である髙橋浩二先生の歩みを通して、日本における嚥下障害医療の歴史を振り返るとともに、これからの嚥下障害医療について考えます。

松宮理事長が聞き手となり、髙橋名誉院長が嚥下障害医療を志したきっかけ、1990年代初頭の米国留学、Michael E. Groher先生との出会い、世界の嚥下障害研究の黎明期、帰国後の日本における嚥下障害医療の体系化と臨床展開などについて、当時の写真や資料を交えながらお話を伺いました。

さらに、日本と米国の嚥下障害医療の違い、歯科医師がこの領域に関わる意義、多職種連携、そして病院から地域・在宅へと展開していくための課題など、これからの嚥下障害医療についても幅広く語られています。

Our web seminar, “The Origins and Future of Dysphagia Care,” will be available free of charge on WHITE CROSS, an online information platform for dental professionals.

In this seminar, we explore the history of dysphagia care in Japan and consider its future through the career of Dr. Koji Takahashi, Director Emeritus of Mogu-mogu Clinic and Professor Emeritus of Showa Medical University, who has been involved in clinical practice, research, and education since the early days of dysphagia care in Japan.

With Dr. Haruhiko Matsumiya, Chairman of Medical Corporation Shienkai, serving as the interviewer, Dr. Takahashi reflects on what first inspired him to pursue dysphagia care, his training in the United States in the early 1990s, his encounter with Dr. Michael E. Groher, the early development of dysphagia research worldwide, and his subsequent efforts to systematize and advance dysphagia care in clinical practice after returning to Japan. His story is illustrated with photographs and historical materials from that period.

The discussion also covers differences in dysphagia care between Japan and the United States, the significance of dentists’ involvement in this field, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the challenges of extending dysphagia care from hospitals into community and home-based healthcare.
